Korea University Ranking and Information

May 9th, 2009

Korea University was founded in 1905 as Bosung College during the final years of the Kingdom of Joseon when Korea was compulsively annexed by Japan. Mr. Hae-Uoung Shin was the first College President. The name changed in 1946 to ‘Korea University’ when three more colleges were founded and the institution became formalised as a university. The first president of the full university was Sang-Yoon Hyun.

During the current Sixth Republic of South Korea under the influence of civilian presidents, the university has begun reaching out to other academic institutions around the world. A programme to modernise and expand the university has been initiated, involving the construction of Central Plaza in 2002, the largest underground parking facility in South Korea.

The current president is Dr. Han Seung-joo.

Korea University is one of the top three universities in South Korea, one of the so-called “SKY” schools in Korea. The acronym is formed from the first initials of the three most prestigious and highly selective universities in Korea: Seoul National University, Korea University, and Yonsei University. Admissions into the universities are competitive because a degree from one of the SKY schools is regarded as a ticket to success and honor in Korean society. In 2007, the Korean Ministry of Education, after assessing domestic MBA programs, named Korea University as the top MBA program in Korea.

Korea University was ranked 150th in the world in October 2006 in a survey by The Times Higher Education Supplement,[8] an improvement on the ranking of 184th place in 2005, when the Social Sciences department ranked 66th, and Liberal Arts ranked 89th.

The Korean Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development announced that Korea university ranked 153rd in the world and 4th in Korea, based on the number of published papers in Science Citation Index journals.

According to the Academic Ranking of World Universities by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China, Korea University ranked in the range of 301-400th . The business programs at Korea University also obtained international recognition by acquiring Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) certifications in both undergraduate- and graduate levels and European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) for the first time in Korea, qualifying for what are considered to be two of the world’s highest regarded certifications for business educational assessment.

Euh Yoon-dae, the then president of the university, started a scheme in 2003, named the “Global KU Project”, which intends to put KU in the world’s top 100 universities. The project involves utilising student exchanges, increasing the amount of courses taught in English to 30%, and building the International Summer Campus.

The rivalry of Korea University and Yonsei University, the top two private institutions in the nation, is nationally renowned. These private universities are proud of and renowned for their spirit, traditions, and the gold balance of academics and athletics. So intense is the rivalry between them that the crimson-attired supporters of Korea University identify the league as the “Ko-Yon Games,” while Yonsei members in blue transpose the two syllables as “Yon-Ko”. Five events: (baseball, basketball, hockey, rugby, and soccer) are held every year.

Study Abroad in UK for Engineering and MBA Degree Courses

May 9th, 2009

Study engineering and MBA in Abroad is the dream of every students, but because of lack of information and knowledge students mostly failed to get degree from abroad. Here we have given you a guidance of engineering and MBA abroad study specially in UK (England).

Why UK?
UK qualifications are recognized and respected throughout the world. Your UK qualification will be a strong foundation for building your future, boosting your career and prospects for a higher salary.

1. Quality standards for UK institutions are among the best in the world. There are more than three thousand educational institutions that welcome international students in the UK.UK degrees can take only three years and postgraduate Master’s courses only one year – compared with four years and two years in most other countries. This means you will save a great deal on both tuition fees and living costs – and you will be able to start working and earning money sooner.
2. Health care is often free for international students. You are likely to be able to take advantage of National Health Service (NHS) treatment, as well as reduced-cost medicines, dental treatment and eye tests. Find out whether you are entitled to NHS care in the Advice section of the website.
3. Thousands of scholarships and bursaries are offered by UK institutions just for international students, while more than twenty-one thousand international students receive scholarship funding from the UK Government every year. You can also get more information about these from the scholarships page.
4. Thanks to changes in work regulations, international students in the UK can now work up to twenty hours a week when studying and full time during vacations.

Admission Requirements

Inquiries concerning admission to a graduate course should be sent to the institutions at least twelve months before the proposed start date. Most institutions do not have a formal closing date for receipt of applications; however, admission to a taught course may have to be submitted by a specific date which varies from course to course. It is also advisable to apply as early as possible given the closing dates and possible level of competition for scholarships given by foundations, trusts and the universities themselves.

For Admission to Master’s Degree a UK Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate subject, awarded with first or second-class Honors, or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard from a university or educational institution of university rank is required. Where the US/Canadian marking scheme is used, a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 is required.

You may have to take one of the following tests: International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) with score 6 or above depending on the course and institution; grade C in Cambridge Proficiency of English or Cambridge Advanced English; Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with score 550 or above; NEAB University Entrance Test in English for speakers of other languages at Grade 3.

Approximate Fees(Average of Many Univ.)

MBA: 11000 (GBP)
Arts: 11000 (GBP)
Engineering: 10000-16000 (GBP)
Medical Care:If your course lasts for more than six months, you will be entitled to free medical care under the UK’s National Health Service. Even if your course lasts for less than six months, your country might have a reciprocal agreement with the UK which will mean that you also are entitled to free medical care. If your country does not have a reciprocal agreement however, and your course lasts less than six months you should set aside sufficient funds to pay for medical insurance.
