Applicants for GPSS through this scholarship Fund must submit short essays with application documents. Topics of short essays will be announced on this page on September-1 each year.

Topics of short essays for October 2009 Enrollment

The main purpose of the Scholarship is to assist eminent Chinese scholars from nominated areas of China to study plant sciences at The University of Auckland and to promote links between China and New Zealand in the field of plant sciences.

One Scholarship will be awarded, for a period of three years, and will be of the value of $20,000 pa.

The Scholarship will be awarded to a PhD candidate in the field of plant science who has paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for full-time enrolment in the School of Biological Sciences.

Further Scholarship Information and Application

A Rhodes Scholarship is tenable for full time study at the University of Oxford. After election to a Scholarship, a successful candidate has still to be found a place in the relevant department or faculty of the University as well as a place in an Oxford College. Admission to the University is not guaranteed and the award of a Scholarship is not confirmed by the Rhodes Trustees until a Scholarelect has been accepted by the University and a College for admission. Election to the Scholarship is normally for two years but the Scholarship may be held for one year only, depending upon the degree programme pursued by the Scholar. The Trustees impose no requirement that a Scholar should study in Oxford for more than one year. A Scholarship may be renewed, at the complete discretion of the Trustees, for a third and final year for those who were initially admitted to Oxford to pursue a doctoral degree.

The Rhodes Trust will pay all university and college fees, exclusive of board and lodging, direct to the College concerned. A Rhodes Scholar receives a personal allowance, currently £11,500 sterling per year, in Oxford from which he/she pays board and lodging and other maintenance costs 1 . The Rhodes Trust will meet the cost of a Scholar’s air travel, economy class, to the United Kingdom at the start of the Scholarship and back to Hong Kong at the end of the Scholarship.
